Each company has a different materiality, which are the 3 issues that are more relevant because of their impact to the stakeholders. Our material topics are: Labor conditions, textile waste, and GHG emissions.

With that in mind, we designed different strategies to reduce negative externalities within our value chain and create positive ones.

Furthermore, each department has the responsibility to ameliorate its processes linked to social and environmental KPIs.

Each year we make accountability for our sustainable achievements and challenges in the sustainability reports:

  • Cascade

PURPOSE

To generate zero textile waste. CASACADE is a reverse logistics system designed to avoid, minimize, reintegrate, and manage textile waste in such a way that it does not reach landfills.

METHODOLOGY

  • Firstly, the fabric is centralized to control the stock and supply to workshops. Additionally, a transport logistic collects the residual material from the different workshops and takes them to a Scraps Bank where it is classified by color to facilitate its reuse.
  • The outsourced workshops are constantly audited to verify the processes and adjust them to minimize the textile waste generated in the cut and confection.
  • The creative design area has the challenge to use the scraps in  new collections, and along with the pattern’s area, rethink new zero waste designs.
  • Annually, BAOBAB FOUNDATION launches the CASCADE CHALLENGE to promote the use of textile scraps in different areas of design. The winners receive seed capital, mentoring from the judges and the baobab team, as well as the chance to market their product on the BAOBAB website.
  • Finally, the scraps that couldn’t be reused by the steps above, are recycled by Fibretex or incineration with Tecnideal. Avoiding their disposition in landfills.

 COMMITMENTS

-Design one zero-waste pattern in each collection.

-Launch one Cascade Collection each year.

-Collect the residual material from the different workshops and take them to a Scraps Bank open for everyone to reuse them without cost.

-Launch an annual CASCADE CHALLENGE to promote the use of textile scraps in different areas of design.

-Avoid at all costs the disposition of our textile waste in landfills.

-Share in the annual sustainability report the amount of textile waste generated and its management.

TREE OF LIFE

PURPOSE

Promote a conjunct commitment to comply the organizational culture by all internal stakeholders, linked to a program of reward that promotes the sensibility towards sustainability and supports environmental organizations.

After each quarter, a wellness survey is carried out, including a rating of the trees of life that participated in the past months. The person who receives the highest score is recognized for an all-inclusive trip with a companion to visit an environmental organization, learn from them, and share the knowledge with the rest of the company.

Currently, we are supporting the foundation Corales de Paz in the Coral Reef restoration in Providence, Colombia.

  • Diálogos Constructivos

PURPOSE

Come forth upon the rising calls for change toward the social and environmental impacts of the fashion industry and develop data in Spanish for further academic research.

METHODOLOGY

Based on external claims, we acknowledged the importance to create a new debate scheme between enterprises and people; to listen, reflect and work upon the rising calls for change.  Currently, we’ve been working on the topic of racism. Firstly, we are developing internal reflections and discussion with activist and academical experts on this topic. Secondly, we will cocreate a repairing action to avoid racism in companies.

Yearly, we share a sustainability survey to aknowledge the voices of our stakeholders and ponder on the topics they consider important.

COMMITMENTS

-Develop internal dialogue and reflections on social and environmental impacts of the fashion industry.

-Face the public opinion and respond to criticisms.

-Share a sustainability survey to acknowledge the voices of our stakeholders and ponder on the topics they consider important.

-In the short term, major decision-making first goes through the sustainability and human resources departments to recognize and point out the socio-environmental implications that may be at stake.

-In the medium term, sustainability parameters must be integrated into all areas of the company.
